Pennies for Patients

The SCA is collecting donations for the Pennies for Patients Program for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society starting February 8th.   Bring your change in!   Vaughan will be joining more than 25,000 schools nationwide raising money for research and patient services.  The Student Council Association is trying to raise $2,000 this year.  All of the money raised by our students goes directly to help area families in their fight against blood cancers.  More information and collection boxes were sent home.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Rivera or Ms. O’Neill.  The last day to turn in money is Friday, February 26th.  Thank you for your support!

Jump Rope For Heart
On Friday, February 12th, kindergarten students got a special visitor during Jump Rope for Heart.  Happy Heart!  The special visit was to recognize Zach L. in Mrs. Lutjen's class for being the top collector in donations for Jump Rope for Heart.  Congratulations Zach!

Jump Rope for Heart Update - This year we have raised a total of $1,142.00 for the American Heart Association. The last two years have been the first time Vaughan has fully participated in Jump Rope for Heat in the last 10 to 12 years.  During that time we've raised about $1,400.  THANK YOU to all that donated to such a great cause!  Way to go Wildcats!!

Jump Rope for Heart
Our school is participating in a special program to raise funds for the American Heart Association.  Students at Vaughan will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart during the month of February.  Jump Rope for Heart is a nationwide event that helps students learn about the benefits of regular physical activity and heart health while raising funds to fight heart disease and stroke.  The money our school raises will fund potentially lifesaving research and will support programs that help people in our community.  Most people don’t realize that the roots for cardiovascular disease in adults often being in childhood from age 10 or even younger.  That’s why it’s important to make changes now to help your children and other family members.  Eat healthy foods, stay physically active and live tobacco free.
Jump Rope for Heart is a fun and effective way to teach heart-healthy living.  It emphasizes the importance of physical activity as our children do something they enjoy – jumping rope.
All donations collected for Jump Rope for Heart should be turned in to Mr. LeVasseur no later than February 29th

RAZ Kids Reading Program
Vaughan Elementary has subscribed to an online library of exciting reading materials. Raz-Kids helps students improve their reading skills as they listen to a book read for modeled fluency. Then, if the computer has a built-in record function, they can record themselves reading the same book. Or, students can read the book to themselves or aloud for practice. Interactive quizzes are available at the end of each book to check for understanding. It is not necessary for students to record themselves but if they have the capability that is always a great way to improve fluency.

Here is how to access the website and your child’s reading assignment from any computer connected to the Internet:

1. Go to from your Internet browser and click the Log In tab .
2. Type in the teacher username and click  the green GO arrow.
3. Find your name on the chart and click on that.

Books that are assigned to your child are based on his or her independent reading level appear on his or her personal assignment page. Your child should choose to listen, read, and then take a quiz by clicking on the symbols below each book.
